Doctor Who Season 10 Premier

I will have to admit that I was a little skeptical going into the premiere this time around.  Being as this is Capaldi’s last season so you never know where they will take it, though I had faith.  I will start by saying I was blown away, I thought this was an amazing start to what looks to be an amazing season of Doctor Who.

I felt invigorated and refreshed watching this episode and the opening sequence was just beautiful.  We start off with the Doctor apparently a professor at University.  There were almost too many throwbacks to count (almost).  Everything from the pictures of Susan and River to his collection of sonics in his pen holder, it was simply magic.

We are introduced to Bill, who will be the new companion to The Doctor.  She is young and wild eyed with a very inquisitive mind, perfect qualifications for a companion.  The Doctor decides he will tutor her after he pulls a little timey wimey (yes, that will never get old and will never go away!) in order to get her enrolled, as well as provide her with many photographs of her mother from her childhood because she never met her.

Bill noticed The Doctor in a mirror as the photographer from some 20 years ago looking exactly the same yet she lets it go.

We have a big bad for the episode which forces The Doctor to whisk her away to safety as they flee from a liquid construct of the classmate that Bill had a crush on.  Danger and adventures follows until the bad is finally “vanquished”  I say this because it was all just a misunderstanding and a promise meant to be kept.

We are also blessed by the presence of the Daleks on episode one, however they weren’t much of a threat or the focus of this episode.  When all is said and done and they are back safe, The Doctor attempts to wipe her memory of the events; she pleads and begs for him to allow her the memories.  This is a particularly memorable moment because what she says, makes him remember what happened and that he lost the memories of someone very important to him, the impossible girl.  He decides to let her have them, yelling at her to leave before he changes his mind..

After having conversations with Susan & River, and presumably the rest of his long line of companions which he tells no, “I don’t do that anymore” we see Bill leaving the building with The Doctor waiting for her.  BIll asks what changed his mind and he says “time”  with a long pause, then continues with “and relative dimension in space” There are many theories that when he says time, he literally means time, that for the 30 seconds that passed for Bill, The Doctor spent months or even years doing something else and decided to come back for her, or maybe he really did just figure hey, “what the hell”
